PC Mag to Shutter Print Version, Go All-Digital

Ziff Davis Media announced today that its flagship PC Magazine will no longer be published in print. The company will instead focus on its Web site, PCMag.com, and its new digital network.
Average Age, Household Income of Magazine Readers on Rise

The results of Mediamark Research Inc.’s Fall Survey were released today. The average household income of those surveyed by MRI was $57,711, up 4.1 percent over MRI’s 2007 survey. But despite a push by some publishers to reach high-end readers and their advertisers few magazines manage to do so. Of the 250 or so titles included in the survey, just 19 reach an audience with an average household income of $100,000 or more.
Hearst shutters O at Home

Hearst is shutting down O at Home and will wrap the magazine's content into its flagship publication, O, The Oprah Magazine. The last standalone issue of the quarterly publication will be Winter 2008, on newsstands November 25.

With print advertising in a precipitous decline, U.S. News & World Report, a magazine once considered a distant third in the newsweekly category to Time and Newsweek, is again reducing its frequency.
Frequency cut for Mens Vogue, Portfolio

Conde Nast is cutting the frequency of Men's Vogue to twice a year, and also will reduce Portfolio from monthly to 10 times a year. The publisher joins a round of belt-tightening that has affected frequencies from Elle Accessories to the Christian Science Monitor.
Conde Nast Folds Mens Vogue, Scales Back Portfolio

Conde Nast announced today that Mens Vogue is being folded back into Vogue and would publish just two times per year. The company also said that it would scale back Portfolio, its high-profile business magazine, to 10 issues per year. Layoffs at both magazines are still to be determined. The news capped one of the worst weeks for the consumer print publishing industry in recent memory.
Ax falls on magazines Radar, 02138

Today, in what some media outlets are calling the magazine industry's Black Friday, both Radar and Harvard-centric glossy 02138 are folding. Radar's print publication will shutter, but Radar's Web site, RadarOnline.com, was bought by American Media Inc.com through a partnership with Integrity Multimedia Company.
Elle Accessories halves '09 frequency

Elle Accessories, a usually-biannual supplement to Elle magazine, is suspending publication until next fall. The fall 2008 edition of the Hachette Filipacchi Media US title has hit newsstands, but the company is not planning a spring 2009 edition.
Magazines Deliver on Rate Base Claims in Q3

Only 8 percent of magazines making a rate base claim missed their promise on ABC audits released in the third quarter of 2008, according to Capell’s Circulation Report, a large improvement compared to 16 percent in 2007 and 10 percent for the first two quarters of this year.
Publisher Out at OK!

Less than a month after taking over as general manager at OK!, former Alpha Media CEO Kent Brownridge this week made several changes to the celebrity magazine’s leadership team. In addition to naming a replacement for outgoing editor Sarah Ivens, Brownridge laid off publisher Tom Morrissy. According to a source, Morrissy just wasn’t Brownridge’s kind of guy.
Robb Report on Block, Again

CurtCo Media has put its flagship Robb Report magazine on the block again. According to sources, the publisher is in the “middle stages” of acquisition talks, most likely with “big international groups.” A deal could be done before the end of the year.
Hearst to Close CosmoGirl!

The December issue will be its last in print. Its Web site, CosmoGirl.com, will continue. President Cathie Black made the announcement in an internal memo to employees Friday.
